Heidi Sorour enters her third year as head coach at San Diego City College. In her first season, Sorour led the Knights to their best season since the program was started in 2006. The Knights won more games (12) in 2008-09 than in the first two seasons of the program combined and also had their best finish (5th) in the PCC.

Sorour came to the Knights with 10 years of coaching experience at several levels from elementary school to community college. In 2005-06, she was an assistant coach under her brother Taufik Sorour on the women's basketball team at Cuyamaca College in El Cajon, Calif. That team became one of the most improved teams in the state with a 10-13 record after going 1-26 the previous year. The 10 wins was also a Cuyamaca record for most in a season by the women's team.

At the top of Sorour's coaching philosophy is the need of enthusiasm and hunger for defensive excellence with consciousness and pride of defensive responsibilities at all times. She believes in the facilitation of a smart and balanced motion offense that creates scoring opportunities through quick no-risk passes, screens and cuts. A maximum effort and pride for rebounding is essential along with an emphasis on fast breaking as much as possible seeking lay-ups as a priority.

Coach Sorour's goals include mastering the fundamentals; building a family and team-first mindset; keeping the team motivated; preparation through proper focus, intensity, standard of excellence, and healthy lifestyle habits; and emphasizing that 'student' comes before 'athlete.'

As a player, Sorour was a standout at Chapman University in Orange, Calif. where, as captain of the team, earned Team MVP and League Honors in both her junior and senior years. Sorour also held school records in free throw percentage and most three-pointers made.
